Quick answer: What startups need to know about Arizona employment law. Final pay, minimum wage, workers comp, and more for Arizona employers.

At-Will Employment

Arizona is a strong at-will employment state. Employment relationships may be terminated by either party at any time, for any reason that does not violate law or public policy.

Final Pay

Arizona requires final pay for involuntarily terminated employees within 7 working days or by the next regular payday, whichever is sooner. For resignations, final pay is due by the next regular payday.

Minimum Wage

Arizona's minimum wage is $15.15 per hour effective January 1, 2026. The rate is adjusted annually for inflation; check the Industrial Commission of Arizona for the current rate and any local requirements.

Paid Sick Leave

The Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act requires employers with 15+ employees to provide at least 40 hours of paid sick leave per year. Employers with fewer than 15 employees must provide 24 hours. Sick leave accrues at 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Workers Compensation

All employers with 1 or more employees must carry workers compensation in Arizona. This is mandatory even for the first employee. Coverage can be obtained through private insurers or the state fund.

New Hire Reporting

Arizona employers must report new hires to the Arizona New Hire Reporting Center within 20 days of hire. This is required for all employers, including household employers.
